Hello! We are Wing 2!!
Today, we attended Afternoon tea invited by President of our college.
He prepared many cookies, chocolates, crackers, even shrimps and gyoza (pot-stickers) for us. We really enjoyed having wonderful foods with him!
Some BLIP students started popular Japanese game that is kind of rhythm game.
Once beginning, it became like a party.
One of the student service staff joined us, but she seemed not to be good at playing this game. Her kind of funny action made us laugh a lots!! hahahaha
Anyway, we had really good time!
Thank you, President!!
私達はSAB(Student Activity Board)という生徒会のような活動と通して、ボストンの人々と交流をしています！
I went to Lesley University to listen to a talk about sexual violence prevention by Alexandra Sasha Watkins, a director of the Drawing on Strengths LLC, and Hiroshi Yokokawa, a correspondent at NHK on May 15, 2016. Most visitors were female adults. There were some female college students, male adults, a father and his daughter, a middle or high school student. There were two American women who listened to a female Japanese translator during his seminar. She translated what she said afterwards.
I got interested in the topic because I hardly knew about that. My knowledge grew only when I took required class for preparing to study abroad in Showa Tokyo, and when I saw news about rape on the Internet. A female professor told us that there are rapes in libraries in the United States, and the libraries are huge to compare to Japanese ones, therefore they happen. She had studied in the United States so she knows about there. We were shocked at the fact. Besides, I was surprised at an another truth by the news when I was a high school student. There are more male rape victims than females in the world.
They explained about the current state, and prevention, and deal of sexual violence including Clery Act, and Title Nine in colleges in the United States, and Hague. There are one-thirds of female students who are raped, and only one-sixths of ones who filed a police report. What the most impressive were those. She lived in Japan for four years, and saw pornographic books based on rape many times in subway. She was disappointed because such publications affect adversely thoughts of men, and then they approach women in the incorrect raping way while they mistakenly believe the “textbooks”. Such magazines are from a stereotype the Asian are obedient, devoted, dainty. The non-Asian target on the Asian regardless of gender, and LGBT.
Hello. How are you? I’m from wing 7.
Today I will talk about “Field trip”. It is the class made by students to study and explore. I guess the class is not usual in Japan, is it? Our class go to field trip on Friday. Every time I can absorb new knowledge about American culture and history.
Last Friday, we went to Harvard University. There is the oldest university in America. It is said that that place was the stage of Harry Potter’s movie. This brilliant picture was taken by my roomie. This stained glass is so beautiful that you should see for yourself.
Yesterday, I saw a play at Manning Elementary School I went to as a volunteer of the Community Ambassador. Theme of this play was world history. Children wore cute costume and made up their face. They said their lines and sang in a loud voice. They were so cute and I was impressed by their wonderful performances.
Hi, I’m Kanae in wing 9.
Last week, we went to the Framingham State University as a field trip. We saw dormitory and some buildings. That day was the last day of classes, so students were enjoying Sandbox. We joined it, and ate delicious foods for free. Right now, two of Showa students study in Framingham State University, so we listened to their campus life while eating lunch.
We saw the student’s poster and Presentation. All of their research and explanation were wonderful.
Finally, we met a kind woman. There were many cupcakes with national flags, so we looked for a Japanese flag’s one. Then, she brought it to us! It was very sweet, but we were so happyJ.
Hello, this is wing 7! We went to Drumlin Farm last week. There are different kind of animals. Such as sheep, goat, pig, cow, chicken, owl, and deer. Unlike Japanese farm, we could see animal other than cattle. Besides, we are able to touch with them, and get on Hayrides. It took us around farm. Near the hayrides’ landing stage, we went up hill. It was a little hard to go to the top, but we could look at beautiful view. So it is a good place to learn about farm and enjoy!
