On May 23, student leaders Airi Tsuji and Haruka Hori (BLIP 13) visited the Bayridge Residence & Cultural Center. Their goal was to prepare for a series of summer cultural exchanges between Bayridge residents and Showa students in the “Teaching Japan” cultural immersion program. After a short tour of the residence, part of which is located in Back Bay’s historic Ayer Mansion, they dined in the cafeteria with students and staff, discussing possible event planning.
Located near Newbury Street, the Bayridge Residence & Cultural Center is an independent student residence housing 60 undergraduate and graduate students –both from America and different countries around the world– who attend a dozen different schools in the Boston area. As a cultural center, Bayridge “seeks to strengthen and support that part of today’s culture which is eminently positive, pro-woman, and pro-community, and it opens its doors to the public for frequent lectures, conferences and concerts.”
Given both institutions’ dedication to the empowerment of women, we hope these cultural exchanges will deepen ties between Showa and Bayridge, creating lasting friendships between our students.
